ComScore: YouTube Leads Video Sites
Google was the top online video provider in August, according to data released this week by comScore.
Google’s video efforts, primarily driven by YouTube, drew 162 million unique viewers, generating 3.5 billion viewing sessions. Vevo followed with 62.3 million viewers and 519 million viewing sessions.
Facebook was No. 3, pulling in 51.6 million viewers and 186 million viewing sessions. Viacom Digital (49.9 million viewers) and Microsoft sites (46.4 million viewers) rounded out the top five.
Google and YouTube also logged the most time spent per user, with the average viewer watching 5.7 hours for the month. Hulu was second in time spent with 3.2 hours.
August also marked the first month of official rankings for comScore YouTube Partner Reporting within the Video Metrix offering. Music channels Vevo (60.6 million viewers) and Warner Music (30.9 million viewers) were the site’s top draws. Gaming channel Machinma followed with 17.7 million viewers. Maker Studios (10 million) and Demand Media (8.4 million) completed the top five.
