Piano To Roll Out Slovenian National Paywall
Piano Media, which last year launched a national paywall for news sites in Slovakia last year is expanding the idea to Slovenia.
The Slovene paywall, which will roll out on Jan. 16, will include nine of the country’s major publishers. Consumers will be charged 4.89 euros ($6.25) per month to access content behind the paywall.
Publishers choose what content will go behind the paywall and what benefits digital readers will receive, Piano said. Some will provide ad-free versions of their sites, while others will offer premium access to their content before it is released to the public later in the day. Some publishers are also considering charging for discussion forums and access to archived articles.
“We have been looking for ways to monetize our content,” Jurij Giacomelli, CEO of Slovenia's leading newspaper Delo, said in a statement. “We see the unique value of the Piano project as it accelerates the adoption process of paid digital content for the entire market.”
