NYT Enhances Site For Starbucks Patrons

Starbucks customers will get free digital access to 15 stories per day on NYTimes.com. Customers will be able to access three stories across five sections.

The New York Times today announced that it will offer Starbucks customers free digital access to 15 articles per day on NYTimes.com through the Starbucks Digital Network.

Customers who log into the SDN will be able to access up to three articles across five sections per day, including Top News, Business, Technology and Most E-Mailed, the Times said. The fifth rotating section features the corresponding special section of the daily print paper and includes: Sports (Monday); Science (Tuesday); Dining (Wednesday); Styles (Thursday); Weekend (Friday); The Magazine (Saturday); and Sunday Review (Sunday).

The new Web-based, cross-platform solution uses responsive design optimized for desktops, tablets and smartphones.

The New York Times print newspaper is already widely distributed in Starbucks outlets across the country. The enhanced access will be available only in U.S. stores that offer free AT&T Wi-Fi.

“Starbucks is the ideal setting for the Times to offer enhanced digital access,” Yasmin Namini, senior VP of marketing and circulation for the Times. “Customers on SDN will discover a diverse selection of Times content updated in real-time, from the day’s top stories to more in-depth features and opinion.”
