Univision News Expands Focus On Health
Univision News has launched several multiplatform initiatives aimed at giving Hispanic audiences direct access to the most current and reliable health-related information and resources.
Among those initiatives is the online tool “¿Cuál Es Tu Número?” (What’s Your Number?), created by Univision’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Juan Rivera, and available on UnivisionNoticias.com. By answering a series of basic questions about their life habits – including nutrition, sleep, exercise, stress levels and others – users receive a score between 1 and 10, which gives them a sense of their general state of health. They can also receive tips on how to make improvements in certain areas.
Since its launch in November 2013, over 141,000 persons have answered the “¿Cuál Es Tu Número?” questionnaire, creating an important database of collective health information that will be used by Univision News to identify, understand and address the Hispanic community’s most pressing health problems going forward.
The new Univision Salud website (www.salud.univision.com), launched in June 2014, provides Hispanics with a wealth of practical information on topics ranging from weight control, illnesses and conditions, medications and health insurance to natural medicine, nutrition, sexuality and the latest medical advances. The site also features links to useful tools that can help users manage different aspects of their health or obtain additional information.
Univision News’ 30-minute weekly health magazine show “Cita con tu Salud” (Appointment with Your Health) will begin its second season on the Univision Network on Sunday, July 20. Hosted by Univision News anchor Pamela Silva Conde (“Primer Impacto”) and Dr. Rivera, the series features conversations with medical specialists, correspondents, preventive health experts and people with health issues to shed light on numerous topics including medical breakthroughs, eating disorders, common illnesses, oral health, and many more.
Following the success of its first “Health Week” in 2013, Univision News will expand the initiative this year with a more extensive lineup of health-related programming and community outreach events under the umbrella of Univision Contigo. Between August 23 and August 30, “Health Week” 2014 will feature daily health-themed stories and segments across many of the Univision Network’s top-rated shows, focusing on a different topic each day. A nationwide “Health Tour” that includes community events and town hall meetings will also take place in several cities across the country.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Univision News’ undisputed leadership in health reporting for the Hispanic public,” expressed Isaac Lee, president of Univision News. “Our multiplatform approach to health reporting speaks to our dedication to responsible health journalism and our commitment to keeping our community informed about crucial health issues. With a team of talented journalists and producers dedicated to our new Health Unit, our leadership in this important area can only get stronger with time.”
